Why did my car stop shifting?

There may be many reasons why your car stopped shifting. It could be as simple as a speed sensor or a shift solenoid or could even be a bad battery. The computer in your car may have determined there was a problem and went into fail safe mode to allow you to drive to a repair service center in order for you to repair the problem.
