What is that milky brown engine oil?  E-mail
Friday, 20 November 2009 01:20

Milky brown engine oil is an indication of coolant in the oil. This can be caused by a blown head gasket (other gasket), a failed transmission cooler, or cracked casings. This condition is very serious and needs to be checked by a professional technician quickly.

Why Should I Care About ATRA?  E-mail
Thursday, 12 November 2009 14:54

Alliance Transmissions would like to thank Mike over at CapitalTransmission.com for this great answer.

Always insist on certified transmission shop service technicians. Because an educated technician keeps themselves up on all the latest technology and "Upgrades" (better) ways of doing transmission repair. Always ask to see your automatic or standard transmission when it comes apart and insist your old parts be returned to you. Always be involved in your clutch, differential or transmission repair-- ask questions-- and don't be afraid to ask for something to be explained to you. All of our technicians are ATRA certified. We only employ experienced personnel whose skills have been tested and certified by the association. Having your transmission rebuilt by an ATRA member means you can be protected by the associations " Golden Rule Warranty Plan." This warranty program that is sponsored by ATRA can require your rebuilt transmission be fixed for free by an ATRA members shop should something go wrong with your automatic transmission within up to 3 year or 50,000 miles of the original repair. Talk to your ATRA certified technician for the specifics of this program.

How Can I Be Sure Its The Transmission?  E-mail
Thursday, 12 November 2009 14:53

There are many symptoms of a failing transmission that are also shared symptoms of other things that can be wrong with your vehicle, other than your transmission, such as transfer case or differential or even a Engine Miss or slipping clutch. The best way to know for sure is to take your vehicle into your ATRA Certified transmission specialist.
Here's why: Wouldn't it be a perfect world if your vehicle could actually " talk " to you? Tell you when it isn't feeling right, and then tell you what to do to fix it?When you get a common sickness, ... you can go to the doctor ( often knowing your diagnosis before you even arrive at his office), tell him your symptoms, And the Doctor simply makes you better.

My repairs seem like alot...Why is it costing so much to have my transmission repaired?  E-mail
Thursday, 12 November 2009 14:48

Alliance Transmissions would like to thank Mike over at CapitalTransmission.com for this great answer.

It really isn't costly when you understand what exactly goes into repairing your transmission problems. It isn't easy as getting your oil changed or changing your spark plugs. Especially newer automatic transmissions that are equipped with front wheel drive technology or computerized.

? Did you know that there are over three thousand parts in an average Automatic transmission?
? Parts for some older model imported vehicles can be 10 times higher than older, larger size modeled cars.
? Just getting to the specific parts just to find out what is malfunctioning is a major task for technicians. Especially if the manufacturer has crammed in all the different mechanical systems on top or around each other(common in smaller cars).

Serious work is unavoidable in getting a proper diagnosis. If anyone claims he can accurately diagnose your transmission or differential problems without looking at the your car or truck first.... we would be very concerned.

Is it Really Necessary to Replace my timing Belt at the Recommended Interval?  E-mail
Friday, 20 November 2009 01:17

YES. The failure of a timing belt in many cars can result in major engine damage. The cost of repairing an engine with a broken timing belt is much greater than the cost of a timing belt replacement.

Why did my car stop shifting?  E-mail
Thursday, 12 November 2009 14:54

There may be many reasons why your car stopped shifting. It could be as simple as a speed sensor or a shift solenoid or could even be a bad battery. The computer in your car may have determined there was a problem and went into fail safe mode to allow you to drive to a repair service center in order for you to repair the problem.

How Often Should I Change My Transmission Fluid?  E-mail
Thursday, 12 November 2009 14:47

Every 12 months, or 15,000 miles, whichever comes first. This is especially true for hot, hilly, or dusty environments (Southern California). This also helps ensure minor problems stay minor and any transmission problems can be caught and fixed early. This helps keep transmission repair costs down and helps your car stay on the road.
